An alternative method is for search engines to deliver advertising based upon the geographic location of the user. Google AdWords & Yahoo Search Marketing provide local search advertising within search engine result pages based on the geographic location or selection of the user. These type of search engine results are commonly referred to as geo-targeted results. For example, when setting up a Google AdWords campaign you may specify distribution to all nations & languages or selections that are relevant. Google AdWords also offers options to restrict your distribution of advertising to those within specific states, city/metro area or a distance from a geograhpical point. Yahoo Sponsored Search allows you to distribute advertising within search engine result pages of users near local regions from a 1/2 mile to 100 mile radius as specified.
